As part of the regular training provided for all full time missionaries, district leaders are periodically required to coach and proselyte with each of the other elders who are assigned to companionships within the geographic territory for which they are responsible. When district leaders are engaged in this type of training activity, it is called an exchange; because the district leader "exchanges" his regular teaching companion to work with another elder for a 24 hour period.
Finding a place to sleep isn't always an easy task
Following our weekly district meeting today, the district leader started an exchange period with another missionary, which would involve an overnight stay at the other elder's apartment. In preparation for the "sleep over" tonight, our district leader brought some bedding and a change of clothes with him this morning on the city bus that brought him and his companion to the Church.
Full time missionaries meet and talk with all kinds of people on the buses that they ride, and today was no exception. As the elders were about to get off the bus, a fellow passenger asked, "So, are you going camping?"
"No, not really" the elders replied.
"Do you see that homeless person standing at the corner?" the passenger asked sincerely as he pointed out the window. Before the district leader could reply, the man continued, "If you are looking for a place to stay, you should follow him; because he knows all the best places to sleep around here!"
